How Many Addresses Are Receiving Airdrops? Flipside Crypto

Airdrops are a common practice in the cryptocurrency space, especially for protocols seeking to expand their user base. However, what are the tangible outcomes of these airdrops?Leveraging Flipside Crypto’s on-chain data and community-driven analytics, we can uncover insights into the actual impact of these airdrop campaigns.
Previous airdrop analyses have shown that weekly airdrops face challenges in attracting new users to the Terra ecosystem. In contrast, for Uniswap, 23.4 percent of users retained their tokens, as per our measurements.
Let’s delve into the specifics of how many addresses received the initial Mirror airdrop for UNI holders and LUNA stakers. Our analysts, @jr3225 and @darksoulsfanlol, will assist in this investigation.

    UNI Holders vs LUNA Stakers

@jr3225 commenced the analysis by determining whether LUNA stakers or UNI holders claimed more MIR during the initial airdrop.

During the Genesis airdrop in December last year, users claimed nearly 9 million out of the 9.15 million total rewards available. As noted by @jr3225, while 12,698 UNI addresses claimed MIR via airdrops, only 1,009 LUNA stakers claimed MIR via airdrops.

Interestingly, despite UNI addresses outnumbering LUNA addresses by approximately 12 times, LUNA stakers claimed around 8.91 million MIR, whereas UNI holders only claimed roughly 2.79 million MIR.

The Lucky Few to Claim Both Airdrops

These groups, however, were not mutually exclusive. As this submission from @darksoulsfanlol points out, there were a lucky few who claimed both airdrops on ETH (by holding UNI) and Terra (by staking LUNA).
@darksoulsfanlol highlights that some fortunate individuals claimed both airdrops on Ethereum (by holding UNI) and Terra (by staking LUNA), indicating that these groups were not mutually exclusive.
In fact, according to @darksoulsfanlolol, “a total of 93 addresses claimed both airdrops on Ethereum and Terra for the genesis airdrop, and 568 addresses claimed the genesis airdrop on Ethereum and any genesis or weekly airdrop on Terra.”

    Conclusions

What insights can we glean from this community analysis of MIR airdrops?

@jr3225 found that “LUNA stakers are simply more aware of MIR.” What’s more, “UNI holders generally don’t know as much about the Terra ecosystem” — which could explain the disparity in claimed amounts. This submission also noted that lost keys or wallets could account for “at least a percentage of unclaimed MIR.” Get the rest of the insights here.
And, as @darksoulsfanlol notes, “Terrans claimed a lot more MIR tokens than UNI holders, the number of addresses that claimed on Terra is only about 10% of the number of addresses of UNI holders,” which could indicate large whale allocations and less reach. This submission also noted that a more fair strategy for airdrop distribution could be to do it by weekly distribution. See more data and insights from @darksoulsfanlol here.
